Cochin, or Kochi, is a prominent port city in South India known as the “Queen of the Arabian Sea.” The city is a well-balanced mix of modern city life and traditional charm. The city’s core is a rapidly expanding metropolis and the country’s evolving software hub. As you leave the city’s fast lanes and travel to the outskirts, you will notice a quaint village life where people live in traditional houses on the banks of the lakes and lagoons that crisscross this district. The sight of massive Chinese fishing nets bringing up a hefty catch from the lagoon’s bottom is breathtaking. Mattancherry is a neighbourhood in Kochi that exemplifies the region’s hospitality. In Mattancherry, a visit to the Jewish District and the Jewish Synagogue is a must. Other attractions in Kochi include the Santa Cruz Basilica, the Dutch Palace, and the Kerala Folklore Museum. Take a walk along Cherai Beach and Marine Drive to recharge your batteries. While in Kochi, take in the enchanting beauty of Bolgatty Palace and savour the distinct flavours of Kerala cuisine.

Q Culture Of Kochi

Kochi has a diverse population that includes people from all over the country, as well as a sizable Jewish community known as the Malabar Yehuden. The latter are an important part of Kochi's business community. Kochi also has a strong presence in Jacobite Syrian Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism, with numerous churches spread throughout the city. Historically, the city was a centre of cultural intellectualism, with many famous Malayalam writers and social activists such as Sahodaran Ayyappan residing there.

Q Restaurants and Local Food in Kochi

Despite having little that stands out, Kochi's cuisine manages to foster the primary elements of a typical Keralan cuisine in the most splendid way possible. Appam and Stew, as well as delicacies like Fish Molly, Fish Peera, and others, can be found here.
Thoran, Banana Chips, Kaalan, Paachadi, and Pootu, which is made from bananas and rice flour, are some of the dishes to try in Kochi. Also, as in the rest of the state, seafood is abundant and delicious.

Q Best Time To Visit Kochi

Although Kochi is a year-round destination, the best time to visit is from October to March (winter). Summers (March to June) and monsoons (July to September), while challenging due to extreme weather, are equally appealing in Kochi, particularly for budget travellers.
